Polished & Professional

I've been waiting a few weeks to share some pretty exciting news with you and today is the day!

It was almost three weeks ago that I woke up and put on this outfit. I rented a car and drove to Princeton where I had an interview for a position that I really wanted. If you've never been on a scientific interview let me explain how they usually work.

The interview lasts the entire day. I've been on some interviews that have lasted two full days. They usually include lunch or dinner with some of your possible future coworkers. They always require you to give an hour-long seminar about your past work. After the seminar, there are a series of small one-on-one interviews with different members of the team. It's stressful and takes a lot of energy, but the company really gets a feel for you and your skills and you get to know the company pretty well too.

I've been on the job hunt for the past few months, since my former company closed its doors and laid everyone off. I've gone on seven interviews, received three job offers and have accepted an offer at a start-up company in Princeton! My first day is Wednesday and I'm trying to pick out what I'm going to wear.

I'm so excited to start my new job and try to make a difference in the drug discovery world! My posts here will start to be a mix of my casual weekend looks and my business work looks! My collection of blazers are so thrilled to be getting out of the closet, they've been lingering there since last May!

This is my interview look and I've honed it pretty well over the summer.  Classic suit with a simple cream colored shell. Chemistry necklace to show my love of my field. Flats because I don't want to be too tall, but they're shiny because I need a little hint of personality.

Suit - Elie Tahari
Shell - French Connection
Watch - DKNY
Purse - Rebecca Minkoff
Shoes - Kenneth Cole

  1. Congratulations!! I used to live right at the border of PA and NJ near Trenton. I love the Princeton area. I also work in the pharmaceutical industry albeit part-time now. I have a Chemical Engineering degree and started off as a bench chemist at a pharm company. Enjoy your new job!
