Chocolates for Valentines Day

I'm not a huge fan of the Valentine's holiday, but I do love me some heart shaped chocolate. Actually, my favorite day is the day after Valentine's day, when all of the holiday candy is on sale...

Instead of going out and buying chocolates this year, I decided to make some of my own. Bonus - the hearts contain a rich chocolate-peanut butter filling!

With just a week left until Christmas, it's time to choose your dessert recipes and head to the grocery store. I'm going to recommend making something that looks fancy but isn't that difficult to make at all! A roulade!

Holiday Gift Guide - For the Beauty Guru

Beauty products make for great stocking stuffers or girlfriend gifts! Treat your beauty lover to something pretty this year! Don't see something above? Check out a few more items after the list!

1. The Body Shop - Advent Calendar - This item is a little pricey at $105, but it is the gift that gives all year long! An advent calendar is the perfect gift to send ahead of time.

2. Bobbi Brown Lipstick in Raisin - I bought this lipstick recently and it is the perfect red brown for the season. I convinced two of my girlfriends to get it as well. It looks amazing on all different skin tones, you can't go wrong with this color!

3. Tarte - At First Blush Set - For the blush lover in your life, these Tarte blushes are beautiful. I think this set is better than getting the Tarte blush palette, because it is easier to use and store the individual blushers.

4. Urban Decay - Naked Palette - The Naked palette is on so many girls wish list. The shadows are creamy and highly pigmented. When choosing between the four different palettes, I love the original Naked palette because the colors are so versatile.

5. Nest - Eau de Parfum Collection - Nest perfumes are lovely and this set gives you a chance to try them all. I recently purchased this and like to layer different scents to create my own scent!

6. The New Black - Nail Ombre Kit - I'm all about ombre these days and this nail kit is right up my alley. The nail polishes can be used one at a time or you can go for the full ombre look.

7. Tangle Teaser Travel - This is the only thing I use to brush my wet hair. Totally reduces damage!

8. Real Techniques - Bold Metals Brush Set - Every beauty guru loves new brushes. Plus, these are so pretty!

9.LUSH - Ro's Argan Body Conditioner - The original body conditioner, Ro's Argan body conditioner smells amazing!

10. Sephora Superstars Kit - I love giving these Sephora kits as gifts. You get so many different items, it's such a fun gift!

11. Laura Mercier - Matte-to-Metal Holiday Caviar Stick Collection - These eye shadow sticks are so creamy and the colors are incredibly rich. Your giftee can use them individually or go for a dramatic eye look with all the colors!

Holiday Gift Guide - For the Baker/Cook

For your one friend who just loves being in the kitchen... Whether they are creating a high-rise cake or dishing out an amazing dinner, every food enthusiast would love a little something kitchen-inspired! I have quite a few of these items in my own kitchen already!

1. Sweetapolita Sprinkles - I have always been jealous of the cake sprinkles on Sweetapolita. Thankfully, Rosie started selling her sprinkle mixtures on Etsy (and recently on her own store). Pick up an assorted pack of these and pretty up any cake!

2. Ikea - Kitchen Cart - I've had many a small kitchen over the past ten years. These adorable Ikea kitchen carts are life-savers for people with low storage space. You don't have to relegate them to the kitchen either, these are super handy to have all over the house!

3. H&M Home - Ceramic Cutting Board - We all need a pretty cutting board for when our friends come over and you don't want to serve your cheese on a scratched up plastic cutting board.

4. HAM Cake Baking Pig Print - I fell in love with HAM prints earlier this year. I have the bouncing bunny print in my office. If you know someone with a blank kitchen wall, this adorable piggy baker may be just the ticket!

5. King Arthur Flour - Baker's Companion - By far my favorite baking cookbook. I've made so many successful recipes from this book that the edges are stained with chocolate and vanilla extract. Get this for the beginner baker and watch them blossom!

6. Williams-Sonoma Striped Apron - If you could see how stained and covered in ingredients my cookbooks have become, you know what I would look like without an apron. Always a good idea for the kitchen, and you look so cool and professional!

7. Doctor Who Cookie Jar - I have this cookie jar in my kitchen, it's filled with K-cups. When you press the lamp on the top of the TARDIS, it makes TARDIS-y noises and lights up! Perfect for any Whovian.

8. Kitchenaid Stand Mixer Decals - I can't afford to replace my stand mixer each time I get bored with the color. What I can do is cover it with stickers! Stand mixer decals abound on Etsy and they aren't too expensive! Get your loved one a few to choose from and they can enjoy having a personalized mixer!

9. Penzeys - Bakers Gift Box - Penzeys is my favorite place to get spices. Each time I visit the store, I always find something new to try out. The gift boxes are the perfect way to try out a number of different spices, depending on your giftee's preferences. One year I was given the Curry box and it was a huge hit in my kitchen!

Haven't found the perfect gift yet? Here are some more options that are a little bit food, a little bit fashion!

Holiday Gift Guide - For the Traveler

With Thanksgiving next week, it's the beginning of the holiday season! Over the next week, I'll be bringing you different gift guides to help you shop for your special people! Today I'm bringing you a gift guide for the avid traveler. These are all items that I carry with me during my travels around the globe!

1. Ted Baker Floral Pouch - I use these pouches to keep my tote bag organized. Generally I have one with personal items, like aspirin and lip balm, and one with electronics, like cords and plugs.

2. Anker Astro E7 - This power pack will charge your iPhone 10 times. If you don't happen to have a seat with an electrical plug, this will be your life saver!

3. Bose Soundtrue Headphones - Truth be told, I got my "Bose" headphones in China. I would recommend this particular version for the sound quality and the color! The mint is so pretty and unique

4. Rebecca Minkoff Anytime Tote - A simple tote is the perfect travel bag. I either would go with this one, or the Kate Spade Harmony tote. Both options are big, light and washable!

5. Fintie iPad Case - For watching movies, reading books, playing games... I have no idea how we traveled lightly before the invention of the iPad. I love the Fintie case because it is sturdy and has a trusty stand.

6. Kate Spade Passport Holder - In reality, a passport holder is totally useless -When you get to customs you need to take your passport out of the holder - but this one is so pretty, I'm considering changing my view on them. Also, my passport is getting so beaten up with all this work travel!

7. Gap Slipper Sweater Socks - Fact - planes are cold. On a long haul flight, nothing is better than slipping out of your sneakers and putting on some fuzzy socks. These are great because they have a little grip on the bottom for when you want to take a walk around the cabin. Please though, put your shoes back on before you go to the restroom.

8. Lifefactory Glass Water Bottle - This bottle is a little heavy, but it is the best water bottle I own. Bring it through TSA empty and have a restaurant fill it up. Some airports have water fountains, but unless you're in Denver, the water is likely to taste a little off.

9. Joie Hadwyn Sweater - The last three travel sweaters that I have bought have been from Joie. They are soft and warm and make for a perfect blanket. I'm considering getting this one because it has a hood!

10. Samsonite Fiero Spinner - This is the suitcase that I'm currently using as my carry on. I never check luggage, even on three-week trips, because you can pack this suitcase to the brim! Yes, it will get heavy, but the hard case keeps the suitcase from getting massive. Fill it up and it will still fit comfortably in the overhead.

11. Dream Zone Sleep Mask - You'll look a little strange, but a sleep mask is a life saver when that one person decides they want to keep their window open for the entire 13 hour flight.

Still looking for something? Here are a few more ideas for your world traveler!

Christmas in the City

We're in the final days before Christmas! I hope you have finished your shopping and are home enjoying some time with family, and some hot chocolate. I am very happy this year to have been able to spend these past few weekends in the city.

Growing up in Upstate NY, I never imagined living this close to New York City. Having everything at my fingertips and the endless opportunities that the city offers is so amazing. This time of year is both a wonderful and a terrible time to visit. Knowing exactly what you want to see and when you should see it will help you make the most of your trip.  Here are some images (and some tips!) from my last three weekends in Manhattan.

It may be cliche, but seeing the Rockefeller center Christmas tree is the thing to see at Christmas time in NYC. From The day of the tree lighting, to the week of the 25th, Rockefeller center is jam-packed with people. You want to be able to move around and enjoy your time at the tree? Visit on a weekday or come late at night. 5pm on a Saturday is the last time you want to attempt a tree-viewing!

Shopping seems to be one of the main reasons people visit NYC for the holidays. I love doing my Christmas shopping in the city too. Malls are confining and packed with people, filled with the same old shops. The city has dozens of special boutiques, all decked out in their holiday finest. If you come for a visit, please don't shop at the same stores that you have at home. They all sell the same thing.

Not only are the insides of the shops decorated, people line up outside to view the windows at Saks, Bergdorf-Goodman, Lord & Taylor & Macy's. My favorite this year? The often overlooked Lord & Taylor. This year, mice dance along the windows, finding mischief and playing games. The window below can be found at Macy's, where a little boy travels through space with Santa.

Coming to Manhattan during the second weekend of December? Watch out for all the Santas! Santacon happens every year, much to the chagrin of locals and bar owners alike. Twenty somethings from New Jersey, Long Island and Upstate New York all dress in festive costumes and take to the trains. They follow a pre-determined route of bars through the city and drink all day. Instagram is usually full of passed-out Santas by 5pm. Don't want the kids to see all the Santas? Avoid Midtown on Santacon day.

Is your trip to NYC not complete without a spin around the ice? Your options are not just limited to the famous Rockefeller rink. The popularity of the original rink has lead to several other rinks popping up around the city. The Trump Rink (formerly the Wollman rink) in Central Park is much larger and feels so much less claustrophobic. My favorite rink is in the Bryant Park winter village. There's a tree, a Christmas shopping village and a lovely restaurant. You can pickup a groupon for dinner and skating. We did it last year and it was such a fun time.

Bundle up! Bring your scarves, mittens and fuzzy hats. Wind often whips down the avenues and cuts right through a thin coat. Also, the sun sets around 4:30pm during the holidays. This makes it easy to view the beautiful decorations that are up and down Sixth Avenue. And as always, please step off of the sidewalk if you want to stop and take pictures!

Don't forget to fuel up each morning! You need calories to keep warm. No yogurt parfait or egg white omelet will ward off the chilly air. What you want is Norma's. Sitting inside of Le Parker Meridian, Norma's is all about decadence. I chose the very berry brioche french toast on my last visit. It was more than I could eat in three breakfasts!

If you need to shop at a mall, I suggest the Time Warner Center on Columbus Circle. You can visit fun shops like C Wonder and diptyque to pick up some gifts, then get a snack at the basement-level Whole Foods. Or you can just buy gifts for people at Whole Foods, I'd be good with that!

This year there are massive stars in the entryway. At night, music plays and the stars light up and dance along with the tune. Stop and watch, but do it from a safe corner. People will knock you down if you stand in front of the doors. Avoid these shops after five pm. Locals will be running around doing their own holiday and grocery shopping and they don't care for your touristy ways.

Also, take a few Festive Selfies. One more selfie in front of the Rockefeller tree isn't going to make that instagram statement that you were hoping for. Get creative and have fun with the elements around you!

If you are visiting the city at this time of the year, my one piece of advice is this - Plan for less, expect more. Manhattan is a big place and there are a ton of people here. It will take longer than you think to walk five blocks and you will want to linger a little longer once you get there.

Not visiting us this year? How do you celebrate the holidays in your village/town/city? I'm looking for a fun place to visit next Christmas and need some inspiration!

Gift Guide 2014 - The Beauty Junkie

I'm a total beauty product junkie and I know I'm not alone in the world. If you have a junkie friend on your holiday giving list, check out some fun ideas below! (Or just buy a few of these for yourself, I won't judge)

1. Elizabeth & James - Nirvana Black - Perfume is a tricky present to buy for someone. This particular one may be a winner for just about everyone. I have come across several friends wearing this scent and it was amazing on each of them. It's a combination of violet, sandalwood and vanilla.

2. Hourglass - Ambient Lighting Blush Palette - This palette is the perfect trio of colors for so many different skin tones.

3. Soap & Glory - Clean on Me Creamy Moisture Shower Gel - Maybe I'm still a twelve year old girl, but I love getting bath products for Christmas! Soap & Glory makes such rich and luxurious shower gels. Bonus? This one smells like mandarins!

4. Charlotte Tilbury - K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick - "Bitch Perfect" or "Love Bite" - With the introduction of Charlotte Tilbury to Nordstrom, we US girls no longer have to head to London for our fix. I'm all about this lipstick. Feeling spendy? Pick up a "Look Set" and it includes everything someone would need to recreate a particular makeup look.

5. Boscia - Tsubaki Cleansing Oil - I'm not sure if I fully buy into the cleansing oil thing yet. I'm thinking this small set would be perfect for someone like me. They're interested in trying something new, but doesn't want to commit to a full-size product yet. I'm all about these sponges though. So nice to cleanse your face with these guys.

6. Fresh - Sugar Ruby Romance - I always have at least three Fresh lip balms in my purse. I'm currently loving the Tulip color. It's the perfect whisper of pink.

7. MAC - Objects of Affection pigments & glitter - This is the time of year to break out the glittery eye shadows. This set from MAC is so pretty, I'm loving the silver and blue collection.

8. NARS - Turkish Delight Lip Gloss in "Super Orgasm" - Who doesn't want lip gloss in their stocking? I'd love to find this number under the tree! While the names of the colors are scandalous, the colors themselves are beautiful!

9. Glamglow - Gift Set - I've been wanting to try the Glamglow skin masks, but wasn't sure which one my skin would like best. This is the perfect way to try all three, at a discount!

10. Bath & Body Works - Mini Hand Sanitizer - Try the winter scents, "Fresh sparkling snow" or "Winter cranberry". I'm a train commuter and feel like these are the only way I make it through the cold and flu season.

Gift Guide 2014 - The Fitness Guru

It's that time of year again! Whether you are shopping for a long list of people, or just picking up something for yourself, it's always nice to have some help. Pop by WITC this week and next for gift guides for everyone on your list. Today, we shop for the fitness guru in our lives.

1. BLUETTEKBluetooth Sport Earbuds - I was always getting tangled up in my headphones, until I switched to these bluetooth, wireless headphone. Such a brilliant invention! Perfect for the runner on your gift list.

2. SPRIKettlebells - I have been all about kettlebell workouts this year. Getting a few sizes for a gift will allow you to get fit at home! Not sure how to use kettlebells? Check out this fun, 20 minute kettlebell boot camp on youtube.

3. Sweaty Betty Chandrasana Yoga Leggings - The floral print of these leggings is so beautiful! I want to wear them all the time. These leggings are completely opaque (as long as you buy the right size) and are perfect for yoga, lifting, lounging, everything!

4. SEPHORARibbon Hair Ties - I have been growing my hair out for almost two years now (who didn't have a Jennifer Lawrence shag in 2012? BTW, I had mine first!). It's finally long enough to hit my shoulders, which means it's getting in the way of my workouts! I love these ribbon hair ties because they are gentle on my locks and come in such pretty colors!

5 - SEPHORA - Alterna Dry Shampoo - I'm a huge fan of dry shampoo after a quick workout session. These Alterna shampoos come in a bunch of amazing scents. Grab the sample size for a stocking stuffer!

6. FitbitFlex - I have had my fitbit for just about a year now and I'm completely obsessed. I use the app on my iPhone to track my steps, water, exercise and calories. It's definitely been a lifesaver since I started a desk job.

7. BrooksRavenna 5 - Every runner likes to find new sneakers until the tree. I'm sure I'm not the only one that likes to get the most obnoxiously colored sneaks. I'm loving these purple ones, but these ombre ones are also amazing!

8. LululemonMantra Tote - I certainly don't need another gym tote. But...  I totally want this one. Look how shiny it is! The inside is so cute too. I could definitely use this for travel.

9. Women's HealthMagazine Subscription - Of all the fitness magazines out there, I like WH the best. There is a great combination of fitness tips and new workouts, fitness and real life fashion, and tasty meals and snacks. Plus, a subscription is the gift that just keeps giving all year!

10. CamelbakEddy Glass .7-Liter Water Bottle - If your friends and family haven't yet switched from plastic water bottles to glass or metal, now is this time! Plastic bottles not only are made of questionable materials, they are bad for the planet! Switching to an inert bottle, like glass or metal, will keep your water tasting fresh and make the planet a little happier.

Holiday Haul - LUSH & A Holiday giveaway!

Judging by the wreaths that are hung from the lampposts and the tree in my neighbors window - it's already time to celebrate Christmas! Personally, I think that we could probably wait just a little bit longer before hanging the fairy lights and getting all mistletoed up. There is one thing that I am happy to celebrate early - the arrival of the holiday LUSH collection!

Each year at this time, LUSH comes out with some of the most glittery, festive and aromatic bath products! While I generally avoid their glitter bombs, I am certainly one to stock up on my favorite scents. They only come around once a year and they smell amazing!

So, what did I pick up this year?  Quite a lot.

I grabbed some of my old favorites and also some of their newer items. Needless to say, my bathroom smells deliciously sweet right now and I can't wait to relax this holiday season with some bubbles.

First, let's start with some of the new items for this year! In years past, so white existed only as a bath bomb and the scent of apple, rosewater and bergamot was so addicting, SO WHITE makes its debut as a shower gel this year! While the label suggests it's shimmering, there is no lingering glitter to this shower gel. No need to worry about using this during the work week!

I had to pick up Candy Mountain because it is quite simply - adorable. I know I know, I will be crumbling up in my bath, but it will look cute on my vanity until that moment occurs. And it will definitely be sitting out until it meets its end because the scent is so pretty. It is labeled as a cotton candy scent, similar to the Rock Star soap. To me, it smells like a totally non-obnoxious vanilla.

The sales associate had to talk me into picking up the Luxury LUSH Pud. I'm not a huge fan of the bath bombs. I prefer bubbles or fizz when it comes to bathtime. When she showed me the size of this bath bomb and the beautiful bath that it produces, I popped it into my basket. This bath bomb is massive and apparently a long lasting fizzer.  We'll see!

Have you ever tried one of LUSH's bath jellies? I was completely weirded out by this product, especially when it's in the tub. Once I picked up the jelly and saw that it was a little snowman, I was won over. How cute is that? I'm a complete sucker for holiday branding, I know. After trying this out in the shower, I am a total jelly convert. My skin was so soft and the scent lasted even after getting out of the shower. I can't really describe the scent as anything other than "fruity" (LUSH says it's a mixture of lemon, bergamot and buchu. Don't worry, I have no idea what buchu is either.)

Another item that I picked up because it was pretty?  The Comforter. Bright magenta swirled with bright white. Picking up this bubble bar, you can feel how moisturizing this bath is going to be. I'm quite sure it will also be hot pink. So girly. The scent - black currant. Yum.

I also had to pick up some overtly holiday LUSH items. The last thing I picked up with the Dashing Santa. It was another item that I had to be sold on, because it is a bath bomb. The citrus-y scent will be perfect for a weekend morning. It smells so refreshing!

No holiday is complete without the classic Christmas Penguin. I'm a little disappointed that my penguin is missing his nose. Nose or no nose, this little penguin is one of my favorites that I'm so glad they brought back for another year. Apparently inspired by the littlest penguin, the Philip island Fairy penguin (go look at them!), these thankfully smell nothing like penguins. Orange flower and bergamot is what my penguin bath will smell like. (I must have been in a bergamot mood this weekend?)

Lastly, an old favorite - Snow Fairy shower gel. Bubblegum and vanilla makes for a very sweet smelling shower gel, certainly not one that you would want to use everyday. I like to use it on Monday mornings. Because, you know, Mondays need a little something. I also like that LUSH is using a biodegradable glitter in this gel (and all of their other products!) because so many companies are polluting our waters with their glittery gels and gritty scrubs.

I'm so glad that you stayed through the entirety of this post, because it was definitely worth it! I'm not just showing off my LUSH purchases today, I'm giving away a LUSH Festive Friends gift box for one lucky reader! Included are two of the items I showed off today (The Christmas penguin & Dashing Santa) and two that I wish I bought (Butter bear & The Christmas Hedgehog).

UPDATE: I'll also be including in the giveaway whatever you list as your favorite LUSH item! Think long and hard before you comment, because that fave could be arriving at your door!

Just leave me a message in the comment section and tell me what is your favorite LUSH product. It could be from holiday or regular collections, or even a retired product that you wish they would bring back! (Personally, I am really missing Coco lotion!)

There are a bunch of extra ways to win and you can earn up to five entries to win.  The giveaway will run through Wednesday, November 26 and I'll be picking the winner on Black Friday! It's just what you need to get the holiday season underway - a nice relaxing bath!

Good Luck!!!

Sorry to my international friends, this giveaway is open to US residents only. The LUSH website will only allow me to ship to customers in the US, even though I know they are an international company. If I resolve this issue, I'll update this post!

Disclaimer - This post is not sponsored by LUSH Cosmetics. I purchased all of this items listed above and the opinions are my own. That being said, LUSH is an awesome company and I love visiting the stores. The salespeople are the nicest ever!

Wilde Valentine's Day

If you can believe it, the boyfriend and I will be celebrating our 11th Valentine's Day together!  Though technically it will be only our third February 14th that we actually spend in each others company.  For the first eight years of our relationship, we were doing the long distance thing.

This year, with V-day falling on a Friday, I think we might actually do something romantic!  When it comes to Valentine's Day dressing, I'm less of a sexy dresser and take more of an adorable with edge route.  My outfit game plan for this year?  Floral and gold!

Though with the snow that just fell this morning and the rain that continues to fall this afternoon, I may go with my day look all day.  Maybe swapping out the gold heels for my turquoise Hunters...

Check out some adorable floral dresses that I'm swooning over for Spring!!!

Bright Lights, Pretty City

There are three times to visit New York City.  1. Springtime, when everything is new and green.  2. Fall, as the leaves are changing and the crisp air invites you to take a long walk. 3. Christmastime. It's like the entire city wraps itself up in bows and lights.

It's impossible to avoid Rockefeller Center...

...and you can't help but get in the holiday spirit when you see the Rockefeller tree.

But you must resist the urge to wait in line for the skating rink.  Check out the Wollman rink in Central Park instead, they have unlimited skate time there! Plus the rink is bigger and you're less likely to trip over someone!

Be sure to stop by the Saks windows this year, the story is so adorable! And if you visit after dark, you can watch a fun short movie that is projected on the front of the building. The little yeti makes an appearance!

New York City is wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and so am I!

All I want for Christmas is... Some Fuz-zy Pants

The holiday party season is coming to a head. The big New Year's Eve events are still a week and a half away, but all I want to do now is put on some fuzzy pants and curl up with a hot cocoa. Wake me when it's 2014!

Holiday Gift Guide - Stocking Stuffers

We're only a few days until Christmas. Hopefully you've made all your big purchases, wrapped those presents and just have a few things left on your to do list. But have you remembered to fill those stockings yet? Personally I like a stocking full of candy and beauty products.

Whatever your favorite person likes in their stocking, be sure to drop a chocolate orange in the toe!

All I want for Christmas is... Some Jew-el-ry!

Shiny, sparkly, bright and bold. Santa should give every good girl a statement piece this year. Heck, even the bad girls deserve something fabulous.

Holiday Gift Guide - Under $50

We're in the home stretch of the shopping season! How is your list coming along? Are you all done, or are you still looking for something for sweet aunt Judy? Did you remember to get something for your dog fluffy? I didn't forget him either.

Today's list is an assortment of ideas that would be appropriate for just about anyone. Who wouldn't want some beautiful coasters made out of sliced agate? And everyone needs a cheerful umbrella on a rainy day. Personally I want to smell like a Christmas cookie and plan on buying myself that kit from Philosophy.
