It's all about the shoes

Hey everyone! I have been the worst blogger this summer. I've been busy enjoying the outdoors, having fun with the boyfriend and lounging around in casual wear. Sorry I've been so lax around here lately, but I'm sure you're busy enjoying your summer as well!

Now, onto some fashion! I haven't done a ton of shopping this summer, but one amazing thing that I picked up recently are these shoes! I'm totally in love with them. The bonus? I found them at Saks Off Fifith during one of their big 50% off everything sale. Such a happy girl here.

The shoes are so pretty, that I decided to pair them with a simple black dress. Surprisingly, they are super comfortable. I was so excited to find a link to them online. You can pick up a pair for yourself! Well, if you're a 9, 10 or 11. Sorry ladies with small feet!

I actually started the day with a necklace in addition to these earrings. Once I got to work and looked into the mirror again, I decided that it was too much. I took the necklace off right away. Less is more when it comes to this outfit!

Wilde Prints

The weather around here is really getting hilarious! Last Thursday brought another snow day from work as fourteen inches of snow came down, followed by two hours of hard rain, followed by another three inches of snow. This week we are expecting to see temperatures rise above fifty degrees and I'm expecting to see things floating down the street as the entire state of New Jersey is a flood zone.

In order to cheer myself up from this silly weather, I threw on one of my favorite printed skirts.  I got this bold pencil skirt from Anthropologie this past Fall and have been wearing it from warm weather though the snowstorms. (Someone is selling a size 12 on Poshmark!)

If you need a little cheering up, wear one of your bright, summery prints with a few of your winter pieces. You'll be feeling like spring in no time, because I think we can't expect real spring for another few weeks.

Blue Legs

The temperatures are rising now, though randomly and it's still not yet warm often enough for me. I'm certainly happy that the sun is staying up longer and I can take these photos without my fingers going numb.  As the temperatures rose this past week, I have been able to go back to wearing fun dresses to work.  Of course tights are still a must, but they don't have to be black!

I scored this HELMUT Helmut Lang dress at the Bloomingdale's sale last week.  I love the seaming and the back zipper, it's so streamlined and chic. I've also been carrying this Ted Baker bag for weeks straight.  It fits all of my work essentials and is so pretty.

Pockets

I'm a sucker for any skirt or dress with pockets.  I originally liked this skirt, but once I tried it on and noticed the pockets, I was sold.  Not that I want to put anything in my pockets, I'm not a guy. I just like them.

On warmer (above 20 ºF) days, I like to wear skirts and dresses to work.  I think it's because of all my years spent in the lab.  No skirts, no tights, no open-toe shoes, no heels.  Now that I'm doing a lot of business development work, I am in an office and get to wear skirts everyday!  I'm just hoping the temperatures will rise a little!

I love these Joie booties and wish that I bought them in a few more colors!  These black leather ones are still available, along with an amazing blue suede color!

Fancy Pants Business Casual

I've been working at my new job for just over a month and have really been enjoying it!  It's a very small company and it's exciting to be in on the ground floor of something.  I've been doing a combination of research and business development and lots of work on setting up our new chemistry labs.  I've also been having fun dressing the part of a businesswoman.

Today I layered one of my favorite Anthro peplums under a warm, yet structured, knit blazer.  To keep the look from being completely monochromatic, I threw on these comfy flats.  I picked them up at TJ Maxx last year, but I have seen them recently at Marshalls in another color!

Depending on what my calendar says will determine my footwear.  This particular day I was touring some labs and needed to be quick on my feet, no high heels this day for me!

Notice anything different about these pictures?  Ten points to the person that figures it out!

A Vest, with Sleeves?

I think fall is finally here to stay. The weekend forecast calls for daytime temps in the 30's! I think that means I won't be wearing these capris again, at least not without knee high boots on my feet. How would you style these capris for the winter time?

I've also taken to layering, a lot! I got this vest from Century 21 for my birthday (thanks BF!) and have been wearing it non-stop since then. It's so warm! Though I did complain that my arms were cold while the BF and I went out to dinner the other night.  He proclaimed "It's such a tragedy that they don't make vests with sleeves!" Funny guy. Hilarious.

I've been testing out my new Rebecca Minkoff bags this week too, trying to decide which one I like the best. The BF likes this one (the Hudson Moto) the most, saying it's more versatile than the quilted bag. I'm not sure, I like both! I might have to find something else for my friend for Christmas!

Wandering Soho

It's been five months now since my company closed and I was no longer employed.  I've been on the job hunt since then, but I can only take so many hours a day networking and applying for jobs.  The remaining hours of the week I try to fill with fun things to distract me from the fact that I have no job.  This including training for a half marathon, finishing partially complete projects and wandering the streets of New York.

My favorite place to wander is Soho and the best time to walk around is a weekday afternoon.  It's so much quieter than on the weekend and the salespeople in the stores are so much more helpful!  I've discovered so many fun shops that make me long for a new job, so I can buy pretty things.

Since I was out for the whole day, I wore my favorite flats and carried along a big tote.

It's also much easier on a weekday to stand in the middle of the street and take pictures.

Comfy Fancy

I wore this while running a bunch of errands downtown.  Three people told me I was really colorful.  Two people felt up my peplum after I told them it was made of sweatshirt material.  I felt so popular.

Full disclosure - I only wore these heels for about thirty minutes.  I like to walk from store to store while running my errands.  These heels weren't made for walking and one of the errands I had to run was - buy new running sneakers.  I was going for casual-ish.  While this top looks super fancy, it is indeed made out of sweatshirt fabric.  It's so comfy!

See you later!  I'm off to change my shoes and run some errands!
